Wireless Security Concerns
Wireless networks provide advances in organizational collaboration and productivity. However, they also bring new security concerns because the network perimeter no longer ends at the physical boundary of the corporate walls. If not well secured, Wireless LANs can open up new avenues of access to private corporate information and into the wired network itself.

The HP ProCurve defense-in-depth wireless security solution safeguards the integrity of the corporate network and supports compliance requirements. Robust, user-based security provides the highest standards for authentication and over-the-air encryption, while our award-winning wireless IDS/IPS monitors and blocks wireless threats, non-stop.

HP ProCurve Wireless Security Solution
The ProCurve defense-in-depth solution complements the ProCurve ProActive Defense strategy by enforcing security at the network edge – where users and devices connect. That strategy helps to safeguard network integrity and supports compliance requirements such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). ProCurve delivers robust, user-based authentication, encryption and access control policies, while leveraging existing authorization, network access control (NAC) and VLAN systems and policies to ensure consistency across the enterprise.

ProCurve’s award-winning wireless intrusion detection and prevention system (IDS/IPS) constantly monitors and blocks wireless threats – such as rogue access points, unauthorized connections and hacker attacks – while providing simultaneous non-stop client access.

The HP ProCurve defense-in-depth wireless security solution is delivered via the following products:
  • MultiService Access Points (MAPs)
As the first line of the ProCurve defense-in-depth security solution, MAPs safeguard confidential network traffic by enforcing policies at the network perimeter. Robust client authentication, data encryption, filtering and VLAN tagging are applied on a per-user basis. That ensures complete integrity for all traffic that traverses the LAN infrastructure. In addition, dual- and tri-radio MAPs with dedicated RF sensors blanket the wireless environment, automatically identifying and blocking wireless vulnerabilities – such as rogue APs, attachments to neighboring network and AP misconfigurations – without compromising network performance. Read more about MAP security features.

  • MultiService Controllers (MSCs)
The MSC centrally defines user-based authentication, data encryption, access control and filtering policies – ensuring they are applied by the MAPs that provide wireless network access. Read more about MSC security features.

  • RF Manager
RF Manager delivers comprehensive wireless IDS/IPS, automatically and immediately blocking all unauthorized traffic without disrupting or reducing the performance of authorized communication. RF Manager simultaneously prevents multiple threats while continuing to scan for additional problems. That eliminates time-consuming false positive alerts with patent-pending classification.
